Easy, scenic, and super accessible - this loop is a local go-to for walkers, riders, and anyone just looking to move a little outside. With parking nearby at the Kinsmen Leisure Center, Sherwood Park Arena, or right off Festival Way, it’s a breeze to get going.
You’ll find benches along the trail if you need a break, and while mornings are usually quiet, it definitely gets busier in the warmer months. Pups are welcome too - just make sure they’re on leash at all times.
Bonus: You’re surrounded by local spots to grab a coffee or bite before or after your loop. We’re big fans of Remedy Café - perfect for fueling up or winding down.
Broadmoor Lake Loop
Strathcona County Regional Trail
This long, scenic stretch is part of the North Saskatchewan River regional trail system - connecting Strathcona Science Park all the way to Fort Saskatchewan. The 22 km section through Strathcona County is freshly paved, making it a smooth ride for cyclists looking to go the distance.
You’ll cruise past peaceful rural views, with a few climbs and railway crossings thrown in to keep things interesting. Benches are scattered along the way - perfect for a quick breather or a slow moment to take it all in.
With multiple access points, you can ride the full route or just hop on for a section - totally up to you. Parking is super easy at either Sunridge Ski Hill or the Strathcona Science Park. From both lots, it’s a quick crossing over the train tracks and you’re on the trail. Look out for the trailhead signs - they’re right at the start and make it easy to know you’re headed in the right direction. And yep, dogs are welcome too (on leash, of course). For quiet vibes, we recommend hitting the trail earlier in the day.
Strathcona Riverside Nature Trail

Tucked right along the river in Strathcona County, this scenic spot is a peaceful, no-fuss way to slow down and take it all in. You’ve got options here - walk a quiet 5 km loop, do a simple in-and-out stroll, or go the distance with an 11 km riverside route that leads all the way to Fort Saskatchewan and West River’s Edge.
The trail winds through tree-covered paths with constant river views and a good dose of calm. About 2.7 km in, you’ll hit a fork - go left for open fields and a return beside the road, or stay right to stay tucked in the trees. Either way, you’ll in for a solid nature fix.
Bonus: It’s dog-friendly! Just be sure to keep your pup on-leash and enjoy the vibes together. Heading out with your pup? West River’s Edge is a perfect pit stop - offering wide open space for an off-leash break they’ll love.
Terwillegar Park to Fort Edmonton Park Loop
Tucked into Edmonton, this scenic loop is a true local favourite. With access points from both Terwillegar and Riverbend, it’s an easy ride to get to - and even easier to enjoy. Expect a mix of paved, dirt, and gravel trails that wind through lush ravins, across two footbridges, and offer just the right amount of climbing to keep things interesting. This isn’t a trail for speed - this is your slow-down-and-soak-it-in kind of ride. Shared by walkers and riders alike, it’s all about keeping the vibes friendly and the pace chill.
Bonus: If you pup is along for the ride, the off-leash Terwillegar Dog Park is the perfect post-loop pit stop. Let them cool off in the river while you catch your breath and enjoy the views.

Elk Island National Park
Just 20 minutes outside Sherwood Park, Elk Island is a year-round natural escape packed with rolling hills, glassy lakes, and wide-open skies. With over 80 km of trails, this is your spot to slow down, spot some wildlife (think bison, elk, and more than 250 species of birds), and reconnect with the outdoors.
Whether you’re after a full-day hike or a scenic stroll on your bike, there’s a trail for every pace. Popular biking routes like the 11.9 km loop through Shirley Lake, Paul Lake, and Oster Lake or the 12.9 km Moss Lake Trail both offer moderately difficult rides with beautiful views and plenty of space to roam. Want something more relaxing? Try the Shoreline Trail - a 6.4 km paved out-and-back trail thats easy and peaceful. These three dog-friendly trails (on-leash required) are perfect for spending a full day exploring the park with your pup.
Bonus: From June 20 - September 2, Parks Canada is offering free admission and discounted overnight stays. So grab your leash, pack a snack, and hit the trails - Elk Island is calling.
Sherwood Park to Goldbar Park
This 25 km out-and-back ride is a go-to for those wanting a scenic route with an easy start. Park at either Strathcona Science Park or Sunridge Ski Hill - both offer quick access and stress-free unloading. From there, follow a mix of paved paths and gravel stretches as you make your way to Riverside Golf Course.
You’ll cross a couple of bridges, roll through Rundle Park (hello, bathrooms and benches), and ride right alongside the river through Capilano Park - prime views guaranteed. Bonus: dogs can be off-leash along the riverside in Gold Bar Park, making this ride a win for your pup too. Whether you’re out for the full distance or just looking to spin part of the way, this trail is approachable and packed with riverside vibes.
